Summertime in St. Louis brings longer days, sunny skies, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures with your furry friend. But while your pup might be wagging their tail at the thought of walkies, the heat and humidity can pose real risks. As your go-to St. Louis dog walking crew, we’re here to help keep your dog safe, cool, and comfortable during those sizzling summer strolls. ☀️🐾

Walk During Cooler Hours
Try to schedule walks early in the morning or later in the evening—when the sun is lower and sidewalks are less scorching. Midday walks can be too hot for your pup’s paws (and your pet sitter too!).
Paw Tip: Place your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!
Hydration Is Everything
Always carry water for your dog during walks. Whether we’re strolling through Tower Grove Park or trotting around your neighborhood, hydration is a non-negotiable.
Paw Tip: Keep a collapsible water bowl handy for quick sips on-the-go!
Choose Shady Routes
We love a good tree-lined trail, especially for our summer Adventure Walks! Shaded paths help prevent overheating and give your dog some relief from the blazing sun. Bonus points if there’s a breeze.
Avoid Hot Pavement & Artificial Turf
Sidewalks and turf heat up quickly and can burn sensitive paw pads. We’ll stick to grassy areas whenever possible and adjust walk times if it’s just too toasty.
Watch for Overheating Signs
Panting is normal—but excessive drooling, lethargy, or disorientation? Not so much. If your dog is showing signs of heat exhaustion, it’s time to get them inside and cooled off ASAP.
