Even Shy Cats Need a Pet Sitter: Why Daily Visits Matter More Than You Think

If you’ve got a cat who gives “I’ll be under the bed for the next 72 hours” energy when strangers come around, you might wonder if hiring a professional cat sitter is really worth it—especially if you’re just going to be away for a couple of days. After all, what could go wrong? Just leave out some extra kibble, top off the water fountain, clean the litter box before you leave, and boom—cat care, complete. Right?
Not so fast, friend. While it may seem like your independent feline doesn't need much, even shy cats benefit greatly from daily pet sitting visits. And more importantly—so does your home.

It’s Not Just About the Litter Box… It’s About Peace of Mind.
At House of Paws Pet Care, we know it’s more than just scooping poop (although yes, we’re absolute pros at that 💪💩). Our cat sitting services in St. Louis are designed to keep both your pet and your home safe while you’re away. Because cats may be low-maintenance, but homes? Not always.
True Tail: The Flood That Almost Was
One of our sitters arrived for a routine daily check-in with a shy kitty named Maple. Maple was doing her usual “observe from a distance” routine, but our sitter noticed something else that needed attention—a small puddle of water near the laundry room. The homeowner hadn’t mentioned anything about a leak, but something didn’t seem right.
Upon further investigation, our sitter discovered the washing machine hookup had started leaking—a slow drip that could’ve turned into a full-on flood. Thanks to the daily visit, we were able to:
✅ Turn off the water main before significant damage occurred
✅ Contact the client and provide video + photo evidence
✅ Coordinate with a local plumber for a same-day repair
Had the visit been delayed even another day, the client could’ve come home to water damage, mold risk, and a seriously stressed-out cat. Instead, Maple was safe, dry, and still lurking adorably behind the couch.
Another Close Call: Trapped in the Closet
We once had a client (no judgment!) who scheduled their first visit two days into their trip to save a little on pet sitting. Unfortunately, their cat Luna had snuck into a closet just before they left—and got trapped inside with no food, water, or litter box for 48 hours.
By the time our sitter arrived, Luna was dehydrated, anxious, and understandably upset. We sprang into action with:
✅ Fresh food and water
✅ Lots of comforting care
✅ A vet check recommendation due to mild dehydration
The client was shocked—and incredibly grateful. It was a powerful reminder that anything can happen while you're away. Even something as simple as a curious cat and a self-closing closet door can turn into a dangerous situation without regular check-ins.
Our Promise: Raising the Standard of Pet Care in St. Louis
At House of Paws, we don’t believe in “every other day” visits for cats. It’s not just about rules—it’s about responsibility. Our promise to our clients is that we:
✔️ Require daily cat sitting visits—even for shy kitties
✔️ Always lay eyes on your cat at every visit
✔️ Provide safety checks on your home (because cats aren’t the only thing that can go sideways)
✔️ Raise the standard of pet care—one visit at a time
We understand that every pet (and every budget) is unique, but peace of mind is priceless. You wouldn’t leave a toddler home alone for a day or two, and while cats are more independent, they still need daily check-ins to stay happy, healthy, and safe.
Shy Cats Deserve Daily Love Too
Even if your cat hides under the bed the entire time we’re there, our visit still matters. We check for signs of movement, ensure they're eating, monitor litter box use, and most importantly—make sure they're OK. Shy doesn’t mean absent. Shy means they need a little extra patience and a lot of understanding, and we’re here for it.
